GP VACANCY ISLE OF TIREE:
LONG TERM GP LOCUM, up to 12 weeks, with view to Partnership
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a GP on the beautiful island of Tiree.
Due to a partner leaving at the end of March 2025, we have an opening for up to 12 weeks a year.
The most westerly of the Inner Hebrides, Tiree is known for its fantastic beaches, water sports and abundant wildlife. There is a regular ferry service to Oban and a daily flight to Glasgow enabling great connections with the mainland.
Tiree Medical Practice is a small dispensing practice, providing medical care for the population of approximately 750 permanent residents, expanding to 2000+ in the busy summer months with visiting tourists.
The practice consists of a friendly team of reception/dispensary staff; a nurse practitioner and a GP. A district nursing team provides care to housebound patients and 24 hour on-call support. There are currently three rotating partners, with one GP providing 24/7 cover at a time.
We have excellent visiting services including a physiotherapist and occupation therapist who specialise in managing complex, frail and elderly populations in their own homes; a podiatrist; a pharmacist; an audiologist; a resident CPN and a local optometrist.
The most exciting aspect of work on Tiree is providing unscheduled care 24/7. The GP is first on-call for all medical or trauma emergencies; with support from the district nurse team. Medical evacuation from Tiree is usually by plane or Helicopter to Glasgow.
Tiree Medical Practice is privileged to host a 3rd year SCOTGEM student for a full year, with all the staff contributing to make this an excellent training opportunity. We also host rural Fellows for short placements.
Closing date 20/01/2025
